The Liverpool Link
Finally, the day we've been looking forward to!!
A beautiful morning, we began with a cooked breakfast at Tesco's!!
We had a couple of hours to kill before we needed to set off - so I did some washing, Rog cleaned the outside of the boat.
We cruised down to Stanley locks - thinking we couldn't lock through before 1.00 pm - the volunteers were pleased to let us in before 12 noon. Only 6 boats are allowed either way per day so certainly not busy!!
The volunteers were plentiful and helpful, and we soon arrived at Stanley dock - site of an enormous tobacco warehouse. The route followed through a number of docks which were interlinked. Trafalgar dock has been backfilled leaving a narrow channel known as "Sids Ditch" this led us through to Princes dock and lock. Lots of touristy gongoozlers watched our progress through the link. As the 3 graces came into view we went under 3 concrete tunnels to arrive at Mann Island lock before cruising into Albert dock and Salthouse dock to pontoon S30 for our 3 day stay.
I found it rather hairy and hazardous - but also amazing to enter Liverpool via this route!!
