Almost there!!

A bitterly cold start - again, very bright sunshine. By the end of the day we've both shed a layer, it's certainly warming up!
No locks today, but so many swing bridges, at least they were all electrically operated - apart from one, when a waiting motorist shouted 'you have to push it love' !! I also got a mouthful from one young lady (?) who was on the moving platform, her dog unwilling to cross too. They both survived!!
Lots of moorhen and coots all along the canal. No moorhen chicks yet but mum and dad feverishly fetching twigs to build nests in the reeds. We came across several broods of coot chicks, as you know coots have white beaks so why do the chicks have red beaks? Very confusing!
There was some lovely scenery today as we cruised through Maghull - a posh suburb of Liverpool, and then onto Aintree. Rog negotiated the 'canal turn' with no problem - unlike the 1928 Grand National - when the leading horse 'refused', causing mayhem for 20 horses and riders who all fell. Only 2 horses reached the final fence - and one of those fell, so Tipperary Tim won at 100 to 1!!  A great story!!
I have to say the locals along this stretch have been very friendly and chatty - they like to think their waterway is being well used again, they're very proud of it all.
We were then cheered on by a class of schoolchildren, who waved and shouted along with their teachers!!
Finally we moored up at Litherland - between a locked stretch of moorings - to keep us safe, we hope!!
